Join us for Worship on Sunday Mornings at 10 a.m.

All are welcome

For over 160 years, our church has stood at the corner of Mill and Catharine Streets in the heart of downtown Poughkeepsie, striving to be faithful to our prophetic calling to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8) and to follow the new commandment of Jesus, which is to love God and our neighbors as ourselves (John 13:34).

Part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America

As a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the ELCA’s Metropolitan New York Synod, we are one of 10,000 congregations and 4.2 million members across the U.S., Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands – part of a community of faith that shares a passion for making positive changes in the world. Our faith is built around a strong belief in God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. Through worship, service, and education, we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives. We also work hard to put our faith into action. In today’s complex world, we strive to make a difference in practical, realistic ways.

Committed to our neighborhood

Here at First Evangelical Lutheran in Poughkeepsie, we have made an intentional faith decision to continue to be an anchor in this North Poughkeepsie neighborhood-in-transition by responding to the needs expressed by those who live in this community.

In Mission together

In some respects we are very traditional, and in other ways, we are learning to let go and trust God to lead us forward in faith to some surprising new places and people. As members of God’s family in mission together, we are part of the whole, complicated, colorful spectrum of God’s beautiful creation of humanity in all its diversity. And there’s always room for more at the Lord’s Table, which is at the heart of this family’s home!

Wherever you are in your journey of faith, you are welcome here!

We trust that you will catch the excitement we are experiencing as we journey forward in faith and life together – joyfully offering each other God’s love, care and hospitality along the way. Come join us!

Blessings of God’s Peace and joy

The Rev. Deborah Hafner DeWinter, Pastor
